Reverse description A bold double-lined cross divides the field into four quarters, each containing alternating castles and rampant lions, the heraldic emblems of Castile and Leon respectively, all deeply struck in high relief within a beaded inner circle. The castles are depicted as triple-towered fortresses and the lions are shown passant-rampant facing left. The surrounding circular Latin legend between the inner beaded border and the outer toothed rim reads IOHANES DEI GRACIA REX CASTELLE, mirroring the obverse inscription.
