Reverse description Central design features a floriated cross with four ornate arms, with the angles of the cross occupied by alternating charges: two Gothic letters L, one dolphin (the heraldic emblem of the Dauphiné), and one fleur-de-lis, arranged in the quarters. The composition reflects the dual authority of the French crown over the Dauphiné. The circumferential legend in uncial Latin is enclosed between two beaded circles, consistent with hammered coinage of the reign of Louis XII.
