| Obverse description | Large Gothic uncial L surmounted by a crown, flanked by the numerals X and II denoting the regnal number, the entire device surrounded by four annulets disposed in the field. The obverse legend reads LVDOVICVS FRANCORVM REX, identifying the issuer as Louis XII, King of France. The composition reflects the coin type first introduced under Charles VIII in 1488 as the karolus, valued at 10 deniers tournois, and subsequently renamed the ludovicus under Louis XII. |
