| Opis awersu | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, depicted in fine high relief characteristic of the early Macedonian royal coinage. The goddess wears a Corinthian helmet with a prominent upright crest, the bowl decorated with an elaborate coiled serpent along the cheekpiece. Long wavy locks of hair fall in braided tresses beneath the helmet onto the neck, rendered with exceptional sculptural detail. The facial features are finely modelled in the Hellenistic style, conveying a serene yet martial character. The field is plain, with no legend on the obverse. |
