| Beschrijving voorzijde | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, depicted in high relief in the Hellenistic style. The goddess wears a Corinthian helmet pushed back on her head, its bowl decorated with a griffin springing to the right in profile. The modeling of the facial features is refined, with characteristic articulation of the cheek guard and neck guard of the helmet visible. The field is smooth and unlettered. |

Struck at Arados — the ancient Phoenician island city off the Syrian coast — this distater belongs to a group produced in Alexander's name during the final years of his life and the immediate aftermath of his death in 323 BC. Arados was one of the few Phoenician mints that continued striking in Alexander's name into the early Diadochi period, making the precise attribution of issues to his lifetime versus posthumous production genuinely contested among specialists.
The distater denomination itself saw limited use compared to the prolific stater series, which contributes to the relative scarcity of this type against Price's broader corpus.
