In the left field, a male athlete in motion leaping leftward is depicted as a subsidiary symbol. A monogram appears below the left wing of Nike. The royal legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ is inscribed to the right of the figure, identifying the coin as issued in the name of Alexander. The composition is rendered with elegant detail typical of the finest Macedonian gold coinage of the late 4th century BC. |
