| 正面描述 | Head of Athena facing right, wearing a crested Attic helmet adorned with an olive wreath; the bowl of the helmet is decorated with a prominent coiled serpent rendered in high relief. The goddess's hair flows in wavy locks beneath the helmet, and her finely modelled features display the archaic-to-early classical artistic style characteristic of Thourian coinage. A small control mark, the letters IΔ, appears in the lower left field before the neck truncation. |

Thourioi was founded in 444/3 BC as a Panhellenic colony on the site of destroyed Sybaris, with Athenian backing and — according to ancient sources — Herodotus among its early settlers. A distater dated to 510 BC presents a chronological problem: that date precedes the city's existence by some sixty years, placing it firmly in the Sybarite period. The attribution to Thourioi likely reflects a scholarly convention grouping the broader regional coinage, or a cataloging date that requires scrutiny against the references cited.
