Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Mehmed IV rendered in raised relief, the calligraphic device composed of interlacing loops and ascending strokes characteristic of Ottoman imperial monograms. The tughra is surrounded by a border of stylized foliate or dotted ornamental elements encircling the irregular flan. The overall execution is typical of hammered provincial Ottoman coinage, with the design occupying nearly the full surface of the coin.
