Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborately composed tuğra (imperial monogram) of Sultan Ahmed I, rendered in the characteristic Ottoman calligraphic style with bold upward strokes (tuğ) rising prominently above the curved baseline (beyze). The interlocking loops and sweeping arms of the tuğra fill the flan, with Arabic inscriptions incorporating the sultan's name and titles disposed within and around the monogram. The coin is enclosed by a dotted border running along the irregular circumference of the hammered flan.
