| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a bold, densely interlaced Arabic legend inscribed in three lines reading 'al-Sultan / Muhammad / ibn Abd al-Rahman', identifying the reigning Moroccan sultan. The calligraphy is executed in a robust sulus-influenced hand typical of 'Alawi hammered coinage. A decorative dotted border runs along the right margin of the flan, a characteristic ornamental feature of this series. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-hammered production. A piercing hole is visible near the upper edge, indicating the coin was at some point suspended as an ornament or amulet. |
