| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the sultan's name 'Qaitbay' rendered in bold, cursive Arabic calligraphy within a circular rope or dotted border. The script is executed in the Mamluk naskh style characteristic of late 15th-century Egyptian and Syrian mint production. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-hammered silver coinage of the period. The strike is moderately well-centered, with the legend legible despite minor surface porosity and wear. |
