Mangu Timur, grandson of Batu Khan, ruled the Golden Horde from 1266 to 1280 and was among the first khans to issue coinage in his own name rather than deferring to the Great Khan in Karakorum — a deliberate assertion of autonomy from the broader Mongol imperial structure. The Khwarizm mint, operating out of the old Khwarezmian capital of Urgench, was one of the most productive in the western steppe economy and handled a significant portion of the Horde's silver output during this period.
The phrase attributed to this type — affirming divine authority — reflects the Horde's deepening engagement with Islam under Mangu Timur, though he himself did not formally convert.
