Reverse description Central field displaying a multi-line Arabic Kufic inscription arranged in horizontal registers within a double linear circle, recording the name of the Abbasid caliph and the Samanid amir Nuh b. Mansur along with the mint name Balkh and the regnal year. A circular marginal legend in Kufic Arabic script runs between the inner and outer borders, recording additional titles or Quranic text. The outer margin contains a further Arabic inscription between linear borders. The flan edges are crenellated and irregular, characteristic of hand-hammered Samanid dirhams struck at provincial mints.
