Obverse description Two diademed male busts facing, turned slightly away from one another in a conjoined arrangement, rendered in the Byzantine-influenced figural style characteristic of Artuqid copper coinage. Below the busts, the Shahada inscription reads 'la ilaha illa allah / muhammad rasul allah' (There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God). To the right, an upward-reading legend gives 'al-Mustanjid billah' and to the left, a downward-reading legend reads 'amir al-mu'minin' (Commander of the Faithful), acknowledging Abbasid suzerainty.
