Aanvullende informatie

Moulay Abd al-Rahman ruled Morocco through one of its most diplomatically pressured periods — the 1844 defeat at Isly by French forces under Bugeaud forced the sultan to curtail support for Abd al-Qadir's Algerian resistance and sign the Treaty of Lalla Maghnia. The dirhams struck at Fes in his later years circulated during this uneasy accommodation with European powers pressing from both the French east and Spanish north.

The 5th Standard designation reflects incremental adjustments to the fineness and weight norms across his long reign, a response to chronic silver shortages and the difficulty of maintaining consistent bullion supply through Saharan trade routes that were increasingly disrupted.
