Reverse description Central field features a multi-line Arabic kufic legend in three or four lines, likely containing the name of the Abbasid caliph and/or the local ruler Mika'il b. Ja'far, arranged in the typical Samanid imitative format. A circular marginal legend in Arabic script runs within a beaded or linear border around the periphery of the coin. The inscription style and layout directly imitate Samanid silver dirhams of the 10th century. The flan is irregular with a rough edge, characteristic of hammered coinage produced at unofficial or provincial mints.
