| Reverse description | Multi-line Kufic Arabic legend filling the central field within a plain inner circle, reading: 'lillah / Muhammad rasul Allah / nasir din Allah / Mas'ud'. The uppermost line opens with the dedicatory formula 'lillah' (to God), followed by the second part of the Shahada affirming the Prophethood of Muhammad, the honorific epithet 'Nasir din Allah' (Helper of the Religion of God) identifying the Ghaznavid sultan, and the ruler's name 'Mas'ud' at the base, referring to Sultan Mas'ud I. The flan is irregular and the strike is characteristic of the hammered technique employed throughout Ghaznavid silver coinage. |
