Obverse description Central field contains a multi-line Arabic Kufic legend arranged in four or five lines within a plain inner circle, reading the Shahada and titles of Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni. A secondary marginal legend in Arabic script runs around the circumference within a beaded outer border. The lettering is boldly struck in raised relief, characteristic of Ghaznavid hammered silver coinage, with the field showing the typical irregular flan and slightly granular surface of the period.
