Reverse description Central field bears multiple lines of bold Kufic script naming the Abbasid caliph and the Ghaznavid ruler Mahmud, with honorific titles including 'Yamin al-Dawla' and references to the Prophet Muhammad as the messenger of Allah. The name 'Mahmud' appears at the top of the field. The legend is arranged in horizontal registers within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a beaded outer rim. The angular Kufic lettering is deeply struck and typical of early eleventh-century eastern Islamic hammered silver coinage.
