Obverse description The obverse presents a purely epigraphic design, as was standard for Islamic coinage of the period, with no figurative imagery. The central field displays a five-line Arabic Kufic legend arranged horizontally across the flan, reading the word 'Adl (Justice) at the top, followed by the Shahada (profession of faith): 'There is no god but Allah, He is One, He has no partner,' and concluding with the honorific title of the Abbasid Caliph al-Qadir Billah. The script is rendered in a bold, early Kufic style with pronounced raised lettering typical of Ghaznavid silver coinage. The flan is irregular in shape, a characteristic feature of hammered Islamic dirhams of this era, with the legend occasionally running to the edge.
