The name of the Kharijite ruler Khalaf b. al-Muda' appears prominently as part of the reverse legend, departing from standard Abbasid reverses and asserting the issuer's political authority. A circular marginal legend surrounds the central panel, separated by concentric beaded borders in the manner of Abbasid-style dirhams.
