Additional information

Kaykhusraw III became sultan at age two following his father Kilij Arslan IV's execution by the Mongol ilkhan Hulagu's successor, making his entire reign a period of effective Mongol regency. Real authority rested with the Pervane Mu'in al-Din Suleyman, who administered Anatolia as a Mongol client while the boy-sultan remained a figurehead. The Pervane's eventual execution by Abaqa Khan in 1277 — punishment for his double-dealing with the Mamluk sultan Baybars after the Battle of Elbistan — left the sultanate in open political freefall.
