Reverse description Central field contains four lines of Kufic Arabic legend naming the caliph and his titles: 'The Imam Hisham, Commander of the Faithful, the Supported by God,' followed by the name of his chamberlain 'Amir.' The surrounding marginal legend carries the Quranic verse (Sura 9:33): 'Muhammad is the messenger of God; He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religions, even if the polytheists abhor it.' The reverse follows the standard Umayyad Andalusian dirham format, with purely epigraphic decoration in Kufic script and no figural elements. The legend arrangement reflects the political authority of both the caliph and his de facto regent, Almanzor (al-Mansur).
