Obverse description Central field dominated by a large ornate four-pointed star motif rendered in flowing Kufic script, with each point terminating in decorative foliate or hooked flourishes. The interstices between the star points are filled with additional cursive Arabic legends that curve around a central roundel. The overall design is characterised by dense interlocking calligraphic elements executed in high relief, typical of the Shirvanshah hammered billon coinage of the 11th century. A marginal legend in Arabic script runs along the inner border of the coin, partially visible due to the irregular flan.
