Dirham 'Dang' - Tochtamysh Saray al-Jadida mint

Toqtamish seized the Golden Horde throne in 1380 with Timurid backing, then immediately turned against his patron — sacking Moscow in 1382 and raiding deep into Timur's territories before the catastrophic defeats of 1391 and 1395 unraveled everything he had built. These dirhams from Saray al-Jadida, the "New Saray" refounded on the lower Volga, were struck during the brief window when his authority was undisputed and his mints fully operational. Sagdeeva's classification separates these from the contested transitional issues of 1380–81, placing this type squarely within his period of consolidated control.
