Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend in the characteristic cursive Naskh script of the Golden Horde, reading the royal title and name of the issuing khan. The inscription is arranged in horizontal registers across the flan, proclaiming the sovereignty of Sultan Toqtamish Khan with the honorific 'al-A'zam' (the Supreme). The die is struck on an irregular, slightly ragged flan typical of hammered Golden Horde silver coinage, with the letters boldly raised in relief against a flat, granular field. Dotted decorative elements separate lines of the legend. The overall execution reflects the provincial mint style of the late fourteenth-century Pontic steppe ateliers.
