| Obverse description | Obverse field entirely occupied by a bold Arabic legend in flowing Naskh script, reading the name and title of the ruler Nawruz Beg Khan. The inscription is arranged in multiple lines filling the flan, with characteristic cursive strokes and ligatures typical of Golden Horde coinage. The die is struck on an irregular, roughly circular flan with uneven edges consistent with hammered production. No border or decorative frame is present, the legend alone dominating the design. |

| Additional information |
Nawruz Beg's reign over the Golden Horde lasted barely a year — he seized power in 1359 amid the catastrophic period of dynastic fragmentation the Russians called the "Great Troubles," a stretch of roughly twenty years during which the khanate burned through more than a dozen rulers in rapid succession. Azaq, the Genoese trading hub at the mouth of the Don, remained one of the few mints that continued striking through the chaos, its output tied to commercial necessity rather than political stability.
The brevity of his rule makes dated issues from this reign genuinely scarce.
