Obverse description Central field contains a three-line Arabic inscription arranged within a plain rectangular cartouche, reading 'al-Sultan / al-Azam / Uzbeg Khan' (the Supreme Sultan Uzbeg Khan), asserting the sovereign title of Khan Muhammad Uzbeg. The lettering is rendered in a bold, somewhat cursive Naskh-influenced hand typical of Golden Horde hammered coinage. The flan is irregularly shaped, as characteristic of hand-struck issues of this series, with the cartouche border partially visible around the inscribed field. The surfaces show the uneven strike and fabric common to fourteenth-century Jochid silver dirhams.
