Reverse description Genoese counterstamp applied to the reverse, depicting a cross potent or anchor cross, the standard Genoese administrative mark used to validate local or foreign silver coinage circulating in the Genoese-controlled trading post of Moncastro. The counterstamp is struck into the field of the coin, partially overlapping the underlying design. The flan exhibits the characteristic irregular shape and rough edges of a hammered small silver, consistent with mid-to-late 14th century Black Sea colonial issues.
