Obverse description Central field bears a three-line Arabic legend in bold relief, reading 'Zarb / Mahmud / Khwaja' (struck by Mahmud Khoja), indicating the mint authority. The script is rendered in a characteristic late Golden Horde hand, with letters crowded toward the centre of the irregularly shaped flan. The surrounding field is flat and unadorned, typical of the utilitarian aqche coinage of the period. Strike is off-centre in places, as is common for hammered issues of this type.
