Dirham - Anonymous Sijistan

Sijistan — the region centered on modern Zaranj in southern Afghanistan — was among the more turbulent eastern provinces under Umayyad administration, with local Kharijite rebellions periodically disrupting both governance and mint output. Anonymous issues from this mint lack a governor's name precisely because attribution to a specific administrator was either deliberately avoided or administratively inconsistent during periods of instability. The provincial mint at Sijistan operated under conditions quite different from the reformed imperial mints at Damascus or Wasit, and output volumes fluctuated sharply across the period.
