| Reverse description | Central field contains a three-line Kufic inscription reading 'الله أحد الله الصمد لم يلد ولم يولد' (God is One, God is Eternal, He neither begat nor was begotten), drawn from Quran 112 (Surat al-Ikhlas). Encircling the central text is a marginal legend in Kufic script naming the mint and the Hijri year of issue. The reverse design, like the obverse, is entirely epigraphic with no figurative imagery, representing the mature aniconic reform coinage of the Umayyad Caliphate. The legends are neatly executed in early angular Kufic characters. |
