| Descrizione del dritto | Central field bears the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) in three lines of Kufic Arabic script, reading 'There is no god but God alone, He has no partner.' An inner circle encloses the central legend, with a marginal inscription in the surrounding annulus recording the mint name al-Rayy and the regnal year of striking. The epigraphy is executed in the angular, early Kufic style characteristic of Umayyad reform coinage introduced under Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. No figural imagery is present, in accordance with the purely epigraphic tradition established by the 698 CE monetary reform. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered Islamic dirhams of this period. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | Central field displays a four-line Kufic Arabic inscription comprising Surah Al-Ikhlas (Quran 112:1-4): 'God is One, God is Eternal, He begot not nor was begotten, and there is none comparable unto Him.' An inner circle surrounds the central text, while the marginal legend in the annulus carries the second part of the Shahada and the Quranic verse from Surah Al-Tawbah (9:33) attesting to the prophethood of Muhammad and the supremacy of Islam. The epigraphy is rendered in early angular Kufic script, consistent with the standardized Umayyad epigraphic dirham type. The design is entirely aniconic, following the canonical reform coinage format. Slight flatness and die-shift are visible, typical of hand-struck silver flans of this era. |
