Obverse description Central field bearing three lines of Arabic Kufic-influenced script arranged horizontally within a plain inner circle: the Shahada declaration reading 'There is no deity except God / Muhammad is the Messenger of God,' followed by the Shi'a formula 'Ali is the chosen representative of God.' A circular marginal legend in Arabic script runs within the outer border, the whole surrounded by an irregular hammered flan edge typical of medieval Yemeni silver coinage.

Reverse description Central field displaying four lines of Arabic script within a plain inner circle, reading 'Al-Imam / Shams / Shari'at / al-Islam' (The Imam, Sun of the Law of Islam), a titulature referencing the Mahdid ruler. A marginal circular legend in Arabic script occupies the outer border, separated from the central inscription by a plain raised ring. The flan is irregularly shaped, consistent with hand-hammered production at the Zabid mint.
