| Obverse description | Central field bearing three lines of Arabic Kufic-influenced script arranged horizontally within a plain inner circle: the Shahada declaration reading 'There is no deity except God / Muhammad is the Messenger of God,' followed by the Shi'a formula 'Ali is the chosen representative of God.' A circular marginal legend in Arabic script runs within the outer border, the whole surrounded by an irregular hammered flan edge typical of medieval Yemeni silver coinage. |
