| Reversbeschreibung | Central field displays four horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic inscription, the uppermost containing the shahada continuation with the name of the Prophet. A single marginal legend in Kufic script encircles the outer border of the flan. The reverse follows the standard Abbasid typological formula with all decoration restricted to sacred calligraphic text. The mint name and regnal year are incorporated within the marginal or field inscriptions in accordance with Abbasid administrative practice. The strike is characteristic of the Madinat Balkh mint output of the early ninth century AH. |
