Additional information

The Rasulids seized control of Yemen from the declining Ayyubids in the 1220s, and by the reign of al-Muzaffar Yusuf I the dynasty had consolidated enough to mint with confidence across a long and relatively stable rule — unusual for medieval Yemen. His nearly five-decade reign produced substantial silver coinage tied to the Red Sea trade economy, where Rasulid dirhams circulated alongside Indian and East African goods moving through Aden, by then one of the Indian Ocean's most active entrepôts.
