Reverse description Central field contains five lines of Kufic Arabic script opening with 'lillah' (to God), followed by the Muhammadan attestation 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God,' and concluding with the caliph's honorific title 'al-Mutawakkil 'ala Allah.' The central inscription block is enclosed within two concentric circular rings. The marginal legend outside the double rings, commencing with 'Muhammad' at 12 o'clock and reading right to left, reproduces Quran 9:33, attesting to the mission of the Prophet to make Islam prevail over all religions. The entire design is executed in angular Kufic script consistent with standard Abbasid dirham typology of the reign of al-Mutawakkil (AH 232–247). No figurative or decorative elements appear beyond the text and encircling rings.
