Reverse description Central field contains multiple lines of Kufic Arabic inscription arranged in horizontal registers within a double linear circle, citing the caliph's name and titles. Three concentric bands of Kufic legend fill the surrounding field to the inner and outer border circles, bearing Quranic text (Quran 9:33) and the names of the ruler. The inscription identifies al-Hakam II by his laqab al-Mustansir Billah and his title Amir al-Mu'minin. The lettering is bold and angular, consistent with the refined Kufic style employed at the Madinat al-Zahra mint. The coin exhibits the slightly irregular, thin flan typical of hammered Andalusian dirhams of the mid-4th century AH.
