Obverse description Central field occupied by the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) rendered in multiple horizontal lines of Kufic script within a plain inner circle. The central legend is enclosed by a finely beaded inner border, with a marginal circular legend in Arabic running along the outer ring of the obverse. The epigraphy is characteristic of Buyid-era dirhams, displaying angular early Kufic letterforms with elongated vertical strokes. The field shows the typical flat hammered surface of tenth-century Iranian silver coinage.
