| Opis awersu | Central field occupied by multiple horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic script arranged in concentric registers, containing the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) and the name of the Abbasid caliph. The central inscription is enclosed by a single linear circle, beyond which runs a continuous circular marginal legend in Kufic script. The outermost border is formed by a rope or pellet-and-bar decorative ring typical of Buyid-era dirhams. The die is struck on an irregularly shaped flan, characteristic of hammered Islamic silver coinage of the 10th century. |
