Reverse description The reverse is likewise entirely epigraphic in the Umayyad Kufic tradition. The central field contains four lines of Kufic Arabic script bearing the Quranic verse of Ikhlas (Surah 112): 'Allah the one, Allah the eternal absolute, He was neither born nor was He begotten, and there is nothing like unto Him.' The marginal legend, enclosed within a beaded border, carries the Quranic verse from Surah 9:33 attesting to the prophethood of Muhammad. The coin exhibits the flat, aniconic aesthetic characteristic of all Umayyad-derived Andalusian silver coinage, with no figurative imagery or decorative motifs.
