Reverse description Griffin seated to the left in a recumbent pose within a shallow incuse square, its eagle-like head turned upward with open beak and prominent ear, wings raised and partially furled behind the body. The creature's leonine haunches and taloned forepaws are rendered with vigorous, stylised modelling characteristic of Pontic coinage of the late fifth century BC. To the right of the central device, a vertical Greek legend reads downward along the border within the incuse field. The composition reflects the civic type associated with the mint of Theodosia.
