The portrait is set within a plain field with no surrounding legend, the heavily worn flan exhibiting the irregular fabric typical of early Ptolemaic bronze coinage struck at the Alexandreia mint. |

The bird's plumage is rendered with fine engraved lines across the folded secondary feathers, and the powerful talons grip the shaft of the thunderbolt firmly. A dotted border encircles the design. The royal legend ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ is disposed in two lines around the field, with a monogram and the numeral Γ (3) appearing as a mint or regnal control mark in the field to the left of the eagle. |
