Obverse description Griffin springing to the left in high relief, depicted in the characteristic Abderan style with outstretched wings folded upward, powerful leonine hindquarters, and an eagle's beak and forepaws rendered with fine archaic detail. The creature is shown mid-leap across the coin field, the body occupying the majority of the flan. The style reflects the accomplished die-cutting tradition of Abdera during the Classical period.

Reverse description Head of a ram facing left, rendered in profile within a shallow incuse square, a hallmark of Abderan coinage of this series. The magistrate's name KLEANTIDES is inscribed in two abbreviated portions of Greek lettering, one placed above and one below the ram's head within the incuse. The incuse square has a slightly uneven border consistent with hand-struck hammered coinage of the period.
