Obverse description Head of Athena facing right, wearing a Attic crested helmet adorned with a laurel wreath along the brow and decorated with incised ridge lines across the bowl. Curling locks of hair escape beneath the helmet at the cheek and nape, rendered with fine engraving characteristic of Tarentine coinage of the late Classical period. The facial features are modelled in high relief with a strong profile, exhibiting the refined Hellenistic artistic style prevalent in Magna Graecia. The field is plain and unlettered save for the single Greek letter delta (Δ) serving as a control mark.
