正面描述 Ithyphallic satyr depicted in the archaic running-kneeling pose (knielauf), advancing to the right in high relief. The figure is shown nude with the characteristic pointed beard, pointed ears, and wild hair of the satyr type, his body rendered with vigorous Archaic-period musculature. The coin field is unlettered, the design filling the broad, irregularly-shaped flan to its edges.

附加信息

Thasos derived its extraordinary wealth from silver mines on the Thracian mainland opposite the island, and from a near-monopoly on the regional wine trade — both of which funded an ambitious early coinage program that predates the Persian sack of 463 BC. The archaic issues in this series were struck before Athenian forces under Cimon expelled the Thasians from their mainland peraia following a three-year siege, ending the city's independent monetary output for a generation.

Copenhagen 191–194 encompasses die variants with subtle differences in fabric and flan preparation that suggest multiple cutting teams working concurrently at the mint.
