| Descrizione del rovescio | Herakles depicted nude, bending forward in a dynamic stance as he wrestles and strangles the Nemean lion with both arms, the lion rearing upward against the hero's body in a vigorous composition. The muscular forms of both figures are rendered in high relief with expressive energy typical of Tarentine die-cutting of the late Classical period. To the left of the scene, Herakles' bow and knotted club are shown in the field as identifying attributes. The Greek legend TAPANTINΩN K runs along the periphery of the coin, identifying the issuing city of Taras. The flan is irregular and the module small, consistent with the diobol denomination. |
