| Beschrijving keerzijde | Facing head of an owl with large round eyes, set within a shallow incuse square with roughly granular surface, as was standard practice for hammered coinage of the Troad in this period. The facial disc and prominent eyes of the owl are rendered in low but crisp relief within the incuse depression. No inscription or additional devices are present; the stark incuse treatment is typical of archaic Greek fractional silver coinage. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Dardanos was a minor coastal polis in the Troad, overshadowed commercially and politically by nearby Lampsakos and Abydos, both of which controlled far more traffic along the Hellespont. That this city struck its own fractional silver at all suggests a degree of civic ambition — or at minimum, a local mercantile need — that its historical footprint rarely conveys. The SNG Copenhagen 280 reference places this piece among a small, tightly grouped corpus; the type is uncommon enough that die links between surviving specimens have been studied to estimate a production run of very limited scope.
