Obverse description Head of Athena facing left, wearing a crested Attic helmet adorned with an olive wreath and a decorative scroll on the bowl. The facial features are rendered in the archaic-to-classical transitional style characteristic of Lucanian coinage, with a well-defined profile and finely incised hair visible beneath the helmet. The neck is partially visible at the truncation, and the field is plain. No legend appears on the obverse.

Reverse description Herakles kneeling to the left in combat, wrestling the Nemean lion, which rears up against the hero's body. Herakles grasps the lion firmly, his muscular form rendered with vigorous detail typical of the late Classical Lucanian die-cutting tradition. The Greek ethnic legend ΗΡΑΚΛΗΙΩΝ is inscribed in the field around the central devices, identifying the issuing city. The composition fills the flan dynamically, reflecting the artistic ambition of Herakleia's mint engravers.
